Mock Emergency Drill – September 24, 2014

Press Release – Emergency Drill (Clark)

MOCK EMERGENCY DRILL AT 80 METERS

Clark, SD – On Wednesday, September 24, 2014, Oak Tree Wind Farm will be the scene of a mock exercise to test the emergency management plans of Clark County (SD), should a real crisis occur.

The event, which is being staged by RENEW Energy Maintenance and Clark County, will focus on emergency response plans, capabilities, communication and procedures pertaining to on-site safety.

The scenario for the September 24 drill involves a Wind Technician becoming unconscious while working 80 meters up-tower.  The Wind Technician will be lowered to local responding teams below.  All parties will act as if this were a true medical emergency.

This full scale drill is being conducted in collaboration with multiple partner agencies including: Avera St. Luke’s CareFlight, Clark Fire Department, Clark Ambulance, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Clark County Emergency Management, Bradley and Raymond Emergency Services and RENEW Energy Maintenance.

The goal of this exercise is to provide realistic training for emergency management personnel, increase operational effectiveness and ensure the best outcome in case of a real emergency.

“The safety of our technicians and responding units is paramount.  We conduct these simulated drills to increase safety awareness and better prepare responses in the event of a real emergency.” – Steve Tolrud, RENEW Energy Maintenance Safety Coordinator.
